The Treasure Fleet and Special Comix from china in Angoulême. We had a table next to those great comic people from china at the festival and I traded some fanzines and comics with them. Very inspiring work by very talented people. Before we left the festival on the last day someone took this old school group photo. Smile everyone!

Some Konstfack students at work.

The studio is a place full of history.

There are a lot of fonts to choose from.

I decided to go for Futura mager, 10 points for some of the text. It worked, but it was quite a hassle to pick and place the letters and also to clean them in the end.

A huge variety of tiny lead pieces for the spacing.

You may use any of the pieces, except this one!

For the color I decided to use warm red on off white paper.

When it finally came to the printing, it turned out that it was very hard to get the pressure and the amount of color right. I ruined a lot of my cards, which I had all carefully cut out by hand before. With some assistance by more experienced students it worked better in the end.

The result is a bunch of cards in different shades of red. Some of them are a bit smudged or the color is bleeding, but I kind of like it that they are not prefect and that each of them is unique. It was a very time consuming but also a fun experiment.

I spent one day in the letterpress studio at Konstfack to use the school’s facilities as long as I have the chance to do so. The calm atmosphere in the workshop and the slow paste of this printing technique were just right to clear my head after all the busy weeks.

It is hard to believe, but my two years at Konstfack are already over. In a few days I will leave Sweden with a master degree in storytelling and a lot of different experiences. It has been a good time and it was great and inspiring to be surrounded by so many talented and hard working people. I will definitely miss my fellow students, the great facilities at school and the wonderful freedom of student life, but now it’s about time to get out of the cosy Konstfack bubble and head back to reality and freelance work.
